Eddie Howard studied Fine Art (BA) at City and Guilds Art School, London. He was awarded the Worshipful Company of Painter Stainers Scholarship in 2018 and was shortlisted for the ACS Studio Prize in 2020. In 2022, he joined the Royal Drawing School where he now teaches drawing on The Young Artists programme.

Eddie's work responds to the human spirit; exploring the intricate web of relationships within the natural and human landscape. Drawing inspiration from human connections within the natural world, he is influenced by the compositions of Titian and Fra Angelico, the textural brilliance of Van Gogh, and literary figures such as Nan Shepherd and Robert Macfarlane. Titles of his recent works; 'BeeQueen’, ‘Gleamy,’ and ‘Planets,’ all drawing from the writings of these authors.

Often working in a scale larger than life Eddie works with a tactile mix of materials; handmade papers, oil pastels, pencils, wax crayons and watercolours, and always drawing or painting directly from observation. Eddie often works in collage, using the layered, kinetic nature of the medium to mirror his evolving understanding of the essence of the particular subject that he is working with.

Eddie’s work invites viewers to engage with the human spirit within the landscape, sparking curiosity and encouraging a deeper exploration into the beautiful and complex relationship between people, flora, fauna and local history.
